Duties
Job Title: Instructional Coach (Part Time)
Responsible to: Assistant Regional Superintendent
Summary of primary job functions:
Support the philosophy and vision of Regional Office of Education 41 by facilitating the intellectual and professional development of teachers. Instructional Coaches must communicate and demonstrate researched-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance.
Time Commitment (approximate):
120 Days
Duties and responsibilities
Assist Regional Office of Education private and public districts in the areas of mathematic, literacy, professional development and school improvement.
Research and provide content knowledge and resources to staff about learning and teaching
Teaching strategies/instructional practice
Assessment design
Interpretation of assessment results/data analysis
Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative instructional strategies including:
individual discussions (informal and formal);
coaching sessions;
demonstration lessons with pre-and post-discussion/analysis;
study groups;
staff meetings; and
professional development programs
Maintain paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner.
Coordinate/facilitate instructional material pilots
Maintain the confidentiality of schools, teachers, and classrooms.
Obtain prior approval from the Regional Assistant Superintendent before distributing written communication and other media.
Attend statewide meetings and other committees as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university; Master's preferred.
Current Illinois State Teaching License.
Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
Knowledge of content standards.
Experience in researched-based instructional practices.
Desire to continue career improvement.
Have a valid driver's license.

Demonstrate willingness to assume leadership positions.
Demonstrate knowledge of researched-based instructional strategies that engage all students.
Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
Demonstrate knowledge using a variety of assessment tools.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of state learning standards, curriculum, and subject matter.
Provide support in designing formative assessments.
Provide support in analyzing student assessment data.
Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data.
Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum.
Monitor by observing and meeting with teachers.
Instruct and support teachers with curriculum software products, and classroom/curriculum
related technologies.
Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
Model lessons when appropriate.
Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers.
Attend workshops/conferences to learn about new innovative instructional strategies.
Understand that job responsibilities may vary related to each building’s needs.
Perform duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
Ideal Candidate Characteristics

Recognizes the different needs of urban and rural schools and demonstrates ability to work adeptly in each setting.
Has experience with School Improvement planning and implementation.
Is self-disciplined, motivated, and can work independently.
Manages time well; is punctual; and respectful of other people’s time.
Physical Requirements/ Environmental Conditions
Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects
or materials.
Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
Requires a TRS calendar to be kept for job days and times. Evening hours expected.
LICENSURE:
Applicants must hold valid PEL.
