2018 Olympiads

Each year the Madison County Regional Office of Educator sponsors a Senior Olympiad (high school) and Junior Olympiad (6th, 7th & 8th grades.) Four-person teams complete in a variety of problem-solving activities requiring higher level thinking and group task sills. A school district may send up to three teams from each middle school to the Junior Olympiad. There is no limit of teams a high school may enter for the Senior Olympiad.
The Senior and Junior Olympiads will be led by Dr. Larry Busch from SIUC and the ROE staff.

Each Olympiad requires a four-person team consisting of the best problem-solving students in your gifted program. A school district or gifted cooperative may enter up to three (3) teams from each attendance center to the Junior Olympiad. However, there is no limit to the number of teams a school can enter for the Senior Olympiad. We are limited to the first 45 teams to register for each the Junior and Senior Olympiads.

Teams will compete in solving a variety of problems requiring higher level thinking skills and group task skills. Team points will be awarded for problem-solving exercises in a variety of areas including audio and visual. Trophies will be presented to winning teams. Certificates of participation will be presented to each person competing. Exercises and projects have varying degrees of difficulties, but all are challenging and exciting.

Each team should bring pencils, paper, scissors, ruler, and markers.
